UOL publishes Matheus Laupman’s opinion on Corinthians’ dilemma

Matheus Laupman, our sports law attorney, provided his opinion to UOL on the possible consequences if the team from São Paulo had not entered the field against Universitário, last Tuesday, in Peru.

The Brazilian team considered not attending the match fearing for the safety of its players and other team members, after local authorities warned them about possible attacks by the Peruvian fans.

According to Laupman, if Corinthians chose not to attend the game, in addition to losing the match and being excluded from the competition, Corinthians could be ordered to pay compensation for loss and damages to Conmebol, in accordance with article 5.1.11.5 of the entity’s Regulations.
