New coronavirus combat-related technologies are part of the BPTO´s priority examination.

Aiming at stimulating, producing and licensing new technologies, the National Institute of Industrial Property (BPTO) will prioritize the examination of patent applications related to innovations that can be used to fight the pandemic of the new coronavirus.

The measure was made official through Ordinance No. 149/2020, published on April 7, 2020, which modifies Resolution No. 239/19, allowing the priority processing of patent applications related to pharmaceutical products and processes and equipment and / or materials for use in health, aiming at the diagnosis, prophylaxis and treatment of Covid-19.

Interested parties will be able to submit the priority request until June 30, 2021.

In addition, in March 2020, the BPTO created the Observatory of Technologies Related to Covid-19, aiming at disseminating technologies that can contribute to coping with the situation, including vaccines, drugs, diagnostic tests, masks and health equipment.
