The BRPTO has released the 2024 Industrial Property Statistical Yearbook, consolidating data on trademark, patent, and industrial design filings made in 2023. The report highlights growth in the protection of assets in the construction, furniture, and design sectors, which are closely linked to the materials and interior industries.
Key highlights:
- Trademarks – Classes related to construction and retail (19, 35, and 37) ranked among the most active. Class 37 (construction and repair) accounted for 4.7% of all trademark filings, showing an 8.9% increase compared to 2023, reflecting the expansion of the sector.
- Industrial Designs – The “Furniture” class maintained national leadership, representing 18.4% of total filings, followed by designs focused on furniture, coatings, and household products — demonstrating design as a competitive differentiator.
- Patents – The fields of Civil Engineering (5.6%) and Basic Chemical Materials (5.4%) ranked among the ten most significant, indicating progress in innovation in materials and industrial processes.
The results underscore the growing strategic use of intellectual property by domestic companies, consolidating design and innovation as key drivers of competitiveness in the construction and consumer goods sectors.
