In a recent decision, the Brazilian Ministry of Culture (“MinC”) approved¹ three entities as collective management associations for the collection and distribution of copyrights due to exhibition of audiovisual works.

The applications filed by Interartis Brasil (Association of Performers of the Brazilian audiovisual sector), GEDAR (Association of Brazilian writers) and DBCA (Association of Brazilian directors from the audiovisual sector) were approved, but do not encompass the exhibition of works in the internet environment.

Each approved entity must now establish their parameters for the collection of copyrights, being subject to a yearly accountability to MinC, in order to exercise the management of its member’s rights.
